What Extra Does Divock Origi Offer Compared to Borini?

Liverpool FC made their 6th summer signing when they snapped up 19 year old Divock Origi for £10,000,000 from Lille. Origi has gone back on loan to the Ligue 1 outfit for the 2014/15 season. However, some say the transfer was delayed due to Fabio Borini not wanting to leave, preferring to stay at Anfield and fight for his place rather than transfer to Sunderland, so does Borini have a point, do you think he should be allowed to stay and fight for his place? What does Origi have that Borini doesn’t? Here’s a quick look at just a few stats that are imperative to have in the Premier league, then we will talk through them!

As you can see from the stats above Borini seems to have a case. He scored more goals last season (7 to Origi’s 5), and I think Origi is going to be more of a goal threat as he gets older. His prowess in the World Cup for example was simply brilliant – he scored the only goal at the Maracana when Belgium beat Russia 1-0! His pace is something that will have caught Brendan’s eye though, whereas Borini isn’t as quick he does possess the ability to hold the ball up; but, Rodgers doesn’t play that way, he plays quick, pacey, counter attacking football and I think this suits Origi more so ultimately I think he will get more goals for Liverpool. Borini also created more chances for his team mates last season something Brendan Rodgers will want to see more of from Origi while he is back on his loan at Lille.

Borini vs Origi

One thing you can say is that Origi is very accurate and he gets his shots on target nearly 3 out of every 4 shots!. This is massively different to Borini who managed 1 every 2 shots (compared to Origi’s 2 on target from every 4). So in this sense he is at least looking for goals. In my opinion Divock has got a lot of time on his side at 19 and has gone back on loan to improve the way that he plays. I am sure scouts will watch him and Rodgers will be in contact with him!

Origi has played at every level possible for Belgium scoring at Under 16, Under 19 and the senior level, so being an established centre forward for his national team will aid his development, especially a national team with the likes of Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku in it. You see the way those two have risen to stardom over the past few seasons and you can’t help but think Divock Origi can do the same eventually!
