Raheem Sterling – the Red Teenage Sensation

Raheem Sterling, the 19-year-old Liverpool player, has got the football world chatting non-stop.

All this talk about him has emerged following the apparent news about Liverpool being set to offer him a new, massive contract that would earn him four times his current wages based on his performances over the past year.

The very talented young Red has displayed brilliant footballing skills since the middle of the previous 2013-2014 EPL season that has gotten people talking about his potential.

Sterling, who played alongside the genius Luis Suarez at Liverpool has certainly learnt a lot from the Uruguayan, especially over the last season.

Following Suarez’s summer move from Liverpool to Barcelona, there were worries regarding who would be able to fill in the void left in the team by Luis Suarez’s departure from the club.

There’s no doubt that Luis Suarez as a player is irreplaceable in the squad and despite the SAS – Suarez and Sturridge- no longer being alive, there’s a new SAS, Sturridge and Sterling, born out of the Ashes.

Sterling showed immense talent and skill last season and to have thought he was at his peak last season was deceiving since he just keeps showing that he can get better and better.

Sterling has impressed everyone this pre-season by creating chances and also scoring goals, basically contributing in Liverpool’s victories.

His pace in Liverpool’s final pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund at Anfield was extraordinary. His physical and tactical development from last season was visible, especially when he took on Dortmund midfielder Sebastian Kehl.

Sterling also scored Liverpool’s second equaliser in the 76th minute in the pre-season friendly, against Manchester City at the Yankee Stadium, before it went to a penalty shoot-out – where the Reds won 3-1.

Sterling kicked off Liverpool’s 2014-2015 EPL season with a goal against Southampton at Anfield. Also to have apparently worked on his finishing from last season, he made that evident by making a beautiful finish to nick the ball into the net after an equally beautiful pass by Jordan Henderson. Daniel Sturridge then scored the second goal for Liverpool at a crucial time of the match, assisted by Raheem, and sealed a victory for the Reds – starting their season off with a win, and announcing the arrival of a probable new SAS in the team.

Sterling was one of the key men in the attack and should carry his current form, if not get better, into the rest of the season. His only aim should be to help Liverpool finish on top by creating chances and scoring goals himself.

After all, with Luis Suarez gone, Brendan Rodgers will be relying on the likes of Sturridge, Coutinho, Henderson, Sterling and Gerrard to be the main men to take the team forward.

Sterling is extremely quick, skilful, aware, has good judgement on the ball, and is tactically aware; he’s also very strong and powerful, and can be one of Rodgers’ main men to attack.

When looking at his stats, they’re almost as good as, or even better than some of the most-paid and highly-rated players in the league. That says a lot about him considering the fact that he’s only 19 years old.

When it comes to Sterling being worth the big bucks, he definitely is. As long as he keeps showing the skills he’s showing and keeps improving, Liverpool should do all they can to keep him in the club and make him into something extraordinary. With a great future ahead of him, Sterling can be made into one of the best young players in Europe. And before the big bosses such as Real Madrid and Barcelona come looking for him, Liverpool should look to make him do as much as he can for the club that he calls home.
