Aguero to boost title bid

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero can pull clear in the race for the Barclays Golden Boot – awarded to the Premier League’s leading scorer – when he faces the second weakest defence in the competition on Saturday evening.
The stocky Argentinian drew level with Chelsea’s Diego Costa on 17 goals at the top of the list with his effort in the 5-0 home demolition of Newcastle last month and he will have fewer better chances of netting his 18th than against second-bottom Burnley at the weekend.
Only fellow relegation candidates QPR (49) have conceded more goals than the 47 the Clarets have let in this season in the Premier League.
That is good news for Aguero, who had a prolific February with four goals in four games – against Barcelona, Newcastle and Stoke – with two coming against Stoke.
City’s 4-1 triumph at the Britannia – a notoriously difficult ground to gain any reward – will be the template manager Manuel Pellegrini will be looking to copy as he seeks to eat into the five-point lead held by Chelsea over them at the top of the table.
With Burnley desperate for points – they are three adrift of safety – and playing in front of their home crowd, they are bound to be more committed to attack than rock-bottom Leicester, City’s victims in a 2- 0 victory at the Etihad last weekend.
That will leave openings for Aguero to capitalise on as City bid to make up for their disappointing 2-2 home draw against Burnley in December, when the Argentina striker was missing due to a knee injury.
