According to reports Gonzalo Higuain, touted as one of the best strikers in Europe, could be all set to move to Manchester United this season. Post his career at River Plate, Higuain moved to Real Madrid and has scored 107 goals in 190 appearances for the team. He has represented Argentina in the 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cups. He joined Napoli in 2013, but has now forayed into the Premier League with his new signing with the Red Devils.
Although Manchester United is in desperate need of a solid defender, a striker like Higuain can only add to the strength of the team. He can hold up the ball for other players, and also has a skilled striking ability. He is speedy and can create quite a pace if the team is in a situation of an onslaught of counter-attack.
With Robin Van Persie set to leave United after his 12 months are done and with the refusal to turn Falcao’s loan contract to a permanent contract, only Rooney, James Wilson and the uncertain Javier Hernandez would remain. Hence, it would be a good decision to have Higuain on board.
Drawing comparisons between RVP and Higuain, RVP has always been known to attack. He is proficient at creating opportunities and also a good finisher. Higuain is a great finisher as well, but it seems like he’s a player that needs a lot more support play to make him effective. Without that, he seems a little lackluster when it comes to attack. However, he is still a great striker with world-class skills and would be an asset to any team. At Real Madrid, Higuain had the attacking support from players such as Ronaldo, Di Maria, Ozil, etc., who all played to go forward themselves. Also, he faced a lot of competition from Benzema. With his apparent move to United, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of player he becomes where he’s one of the key attackers rather than just another player on the field.
At his former club, Higuain scored a total of 18 goals. Following a comparatively dry spell of goals, Manchester United would welcome a player like Higuain and look to create a partnership among him and the rest of the strikers.
If reports are to be believed, Higuain has already agreed to move to United. That being the case, it should be a treat to watch Higuain join forces with Rooney and take Manchester United to a more formidable position on the front foot.
