David Silva has received praise from all quarters this season for his performances and rightly so. He has lighted up the English Premier League with his passing ability which has left many defences dumbstruck.
On the other hand Luis Nani has been under the radar for most of the season. But a closer look at the two players and their stats show that Nani has been equally, if not more effective, as Davis Silva.
Firstly lets study how both the players match up in creating chances for their teams. Silva has created 49 chances for his team whereas Nani has not been far behind with 48. An important stat is that both the players have created a chance every 29 mins they have been on the pitch. Both the players have been the most creative force in their respective teams. Silva has 8 assists next to his name and Nani has 7. Hence we see both the players are closely matched in creating chances and goals.
David Silva has definitely been a better passer as compared to Nani or for that matter any other player in the league. David Silva has completed a staggering 939 passes with an accuracy of 85%. On the other hand Nani has completed 572 passes with an accuracy of 71%. But Nani leads 32 to 24 when it comes to successful dribbles. David Silva has been more accurate on shots than Nani which certainly catches the eye of others as he brings in goalkeeper in play more often than Nani does. Shooting accuracy for Silva has been 58% in compare to Nani’s 38%. Though in the attacking 3rd Nani has 6 goals, one more then his counterpart and a better chance conversion rate. So as far as stats go Nani has been toe to toe with David Silva this season.
Defensively both the players have done equally well for their respective teams with Nani having a tackle success of 63.16% to Silva’s 65%. Both of them have made an equal number of interceptions so far this season.
We are reaching the half way mark in the season and only goal difference separates the two teams from Manchester. It is not a mere coincidence that the two teams are as evenly matched as these two players. The title race is hotting up and the performance of these two talisman may decide the outcome.
This is just my point of view as there’s no doubting that David Silva has been a great force this season but Luis Nani has not got his due for his consistent performances. Stats do not tell the entire story so the debate LUIS NANI VS DAVID SILVA is open for all.
