Chelsea vs Swansea City | Team News, Stats & Key Men

On February 25th, Chelsea welcome Swansea City to Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to march toward the Premier League title.  With an eight point lead at the top, every win moves Chelsea closer and closer to the championship.

Chelsea have built their lead at the top by beating the bad teams this season.  The Blues have dropped only four points in games against teams outside of the top five this season.  Two of those points did come against Swansea when they drew 2-2 at the Liberty Stadium in September.  They’ll look to overcome the Swans this time and push toward the title.

After being a train-wreck for the first 21 games of the season, Swansea have won three of their last four matches and look competent under Paul Clement.  The former Chelsea assistant has Swansea looking like a team that could absolutely stay up after it looking like the Swans were odds on to be relegated earlier in the season.

Team News

Thibaut Courtois is the only injury doubt as he is suffering with gastroenteritis, but has been in training this week and is nothing more than a slight doubt, according to Physioroom.com.

Nathan Dyer, Ki Sueng-Yueng, and Jefferson Montero are all out with long term injuries, while Leon Britton is an injury doubt to face Chelsea, according to Physioroom.com.

Key Players

Chelsea: Eden Hazard

After winning player of the season in 2014/2015, Eden Hazard had an awful year last year.  He’s been back to his best this year and has been winning Chelsea games and leading them to the title like he did two years ago.  Hazard has completed more dribbles than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues, according to WhoScored.com and has combined that with 10 goals this season.  He’s been able to get back to his top level and so are Chelsea.

Swansea City: Gylfi Sigurdsson

Swansea’s up tick in results has coincided with Gylfi Sigurdsson scoring and creating more goals.  He has scored three goals and assisted two more in the last four matches for Swansea.  The Icelandic international has been Swansea’s best player since the departure of Wilfried Bony and it looks like he could just save the Swans Premier League lives.

Prediction

Chelsea will probably win this match.  Their whole thing is they beat the teams they should beat and have racked up points that way all season.  They’re on their way to the Premier League title and this should be another step towards that for the Blues.

Prediction: 2-0 Chelsea
