The World Cup in Russia is underway and it certainly started in emphatic fashion with the hosts putting in a top display to destroy a very weak Saudi Arabia side. This was a 5-0 victory so they will now be hoping to progress through to the knockout stages. We are heading in with confidence high following qualifying for the competition for the first time since 2006. We have been drawn in Group F against the defending champions Germany but expectations will be high of a successful competition with the clash against Mexico looking the most important in order to progress through.
The latest (Football World Cup odds 2018) make Sweden 150/1 to go all the way and lift the title. This would be a big shock but we are going in with no expectations so if we can get out of the group this would be seen as good progression and success for the side. We will, of course, be sporting our famous yellow throughout the competition. So how has the kit changed over time? Check out the animation below with the infographic also providing a brief overview of how kits have changed in general over time.
The lions are lead for the first time in the World Cup by former defender Gareth Southgate, who led the team to a 2-1 win over Tunisia, despite a tough match. We will be hoping he can continue his form in Russia and help lead us to success. The world cup is the biggest event of the year and will be watched and attended from fans all over the world. This is a fantastic opportunity for players to really make a name for themselves on the biggest stage as shown by Colombian’s James Rodriguez who shot onto the radar of many of the top clubs following some stunning performances in Brazil four years ago. This resulted in a big money signing to Spanish giants Real Madrid so he will be hoping for more of the same in Russia. Who could be the next player to make their mark? Leave your suggestions below.
