Burnley v Arsenal Preview | Team News, Key Players & Prediction

Burnley secured their Premier League safety a few weeks ago, so this match is just about trying to finish on as many points as possible. They will finish somewhere between 14th and 16th, so there won’t be a lot of movement for them on the final day, regardless of their result. While they haven’t had as good a season as they would have liked, they could still finish it off with a great result against Arsenal.

Arsenal saw their league season end last week with their disappointing draw against Brighton. Outside of an incredible goal difference swing, the Gunners will be finishing outside of the top four for the third consecutive season. With that in mind, they will likely play a weakened team. Combine that with their atrocious away form and it will be a very tough match for them.

Team News

Burnley will be without Robbie Brady, Phil Bardsley, Steven Defour and Aaron Lennon through injury, according to Physioroom.com.

On the other side, the Gunners will be without Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding, Danny Welbeck, Dennis Suarez and Aaron Ramsey through various injuries, according to Physioroom.com.

Key Players

Burnley: Chris Wood

The Clarets have struggled to score goals this season, but Arsenal’s leaky defence has proved to be a great tonic to weak attacks this season. Wood has been one of Burnley’s top goalscorers and he has the ability to exploit Arsenal’s defensive issues. He already reached 10 goals for the season and could grab a few more in this dead rubber.

Arsenal: Shkodran Mustafi

Arsenal’s lineup for Sunday is completely up in the air. That said, if Mustafi plays he will likely have a big influence in the match. Whether that influence is positive or negative for Arsenal remains to be seen. The German keeps very busy in every match he plays, making a lot of clearances and tackles. When he doesn’t make a catastrophic mistake, he can be pretty good. His issue is that he makes those mistakes with disturbing regularity.

Prediction

Burnley are a good home side and Arsenal are a very poor away side. Combine that with the fact that this match means nothing to Arsenal and a Burnley win seems likely.

Prediction: 2-1 Burnley
