Southampton all but clinched Premier Leauge safety with their win against Norwich City last week. They are 10 points clear of the relegation zone with eight matches to play, an incredible turnaround from when they were 19th after 13 games. Now they can set their sights higher, maybe even finish in the top half.
Arsenal’s season is much less inspirational. The Gunners sit 10th after their two losses since the restart. Their preseason goals look out of reach and the season might be over. They need to be perfect going forward.
Southampton’s only injury doubt is Shane Long, who is could return, according to PremierInjuries.com. Moussa Djenepo is suspended after his red card.
Arsenal has a host of issues. Calum Chambers, Lucas Torreira, Cedric Soares, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Granit Xhaka, Bernd Leno and Pablo Mari are all expected to miss out through injury, according to PremierInjuries.com. In addition to that, David Luiz will miss out through suspension.
Southampton: Danny Ings
Ings has been sensational this season, he is tied for the most non-penalty goals in the Premier League. His 16 goals and two assists account for 47% of Southampton’s goal this season. He has carried the Saints to safety and will look to carry them further as the season progresses.
Arsenal: Nicolas Pepe
Pepe gave Arsenal a lead on a wonder goal against Brighton. They were unable to hold that lead, but any Pepe output is crucial for Arsenal. They need him to be a big hit and he is key for them both for the rest of this season and moving forward.
Arsenal probably has more talent than Southampton, but the Saints are playing better and are the home team. They have every chance to draw, if not win this match.
Prediction: 1-1 Draw
