Will Arsenal Lose Their Captain to PSG?

Paris Saint-Germain Eyeing Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the French football giants, are reportedly setting their sights on the possible signing of Martin Odegaard, the current captain of Arsenal, according to Simon Jones in the Daily Mail. Odegaard, who has played a significant role in Arsenal’s ascension in the Premier League this season, is under consideration by the Parisian club for an unexpected move.

Norwegian midfielder, Odegaard, has had a superb season with Arsenal, contributing significantly to the team’s improvement in the Premier League. With 15 goals and eight assists in 37 appearances, Odegaard has demonstrated his value on the pitch, leading to his consideration by PSG.

PSG have been captivated by Odegaard’s exceptional performances. However, the task of persuading the Norwegian star to leave Emirates Stadium might prove challenging. Odegaard plays an integral role in Mikel Arteta’s future plans and seems content with his life in London.

Arsenal’s Stance on Odegaard’s Future

Despite possessing a substantial transfer budget of approximately £180m in addition to potential sales, Arsenal are disinclined to let Odegaard depart. The Gunners are hoping to surpass their second-place finish in the next season, with Odegaard playing a pivotal role.

Changes are afoot in Arsenal’s line-up with Granit Xhaka, who recently scored twice in their 5-0 victory over Wolves, likely having played his final game for the Gunners. Bundesliga team, Bayer Leverkusen, are reportedly the favourites to sign the Swiss international. Other potential departures include full back Kieran Tierney, defensive midfielder Thomas Partey, and defender Rob Holding.

PSG and Chelsea Tug of War Over Ugarte

Simultaneously, PSG is competing with Chelsea for Manuel Ugarte, the target midfielder from Sporting Lisbon. The 22-year-old player, who has a £53 million buy-out clause, has reportedly received offers from both PSG and Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Chelsea, attempting to raise funds and asking £75m for Mason Mount, is also considering Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, and Moises Caicedo from Brighton. PSG’s current offer for Ugarte is to meet the buy-out clause in stages.
