Newcastle have made a shrewd move in signing defender

Newcastle United have been busy in the summer transfer window, and unsurprisingly, they’ve spent some eye-opening amounts of money on some serious talent. The Magpies’ well-publicised wealth hasn’t played in their favour at times, as some clubs have looked to set high demands for their players when Eddie Howe’s side are interested in signing them.

The latest player to sign up at St James’ Park is Lewis Hall, who arrived from Chelsea on a loan deal until the end of the 2023/24 season. That deal will become a permanent one at the end of this year’s league campaign based on performance-related criteria. Hall has shown glimpses of his exciting potential on the pitch in recent months, as he featured for Chelsea’s first-team on a number of occasions during the 2022/23 campaign.

The 18-year-old has been capped at youth level for England, and made 11 appearances in total for Chelsea’s senior team last season, as they finished a disappointing 12th in the Premier League table, in what was a year to forget for the Stamford Bridge faithful. One of the few positives for that Chelsea team was the emergence of some of the promising youngsters that were given an opportunity to impress in the senior setup, with Hall being one of those.

Therefore, it did come as a surprise to see the Blues being willing to cash in on Hall, who is arguably one of their brightest young talents. However, they made the bold decision to move him on this summer, and their loss will be Newcastle United’s gain. The Magpies might not start Hall in every single game, especially since they’ve recently added Tino Livramento to their ranks not so long ago.

However, Hall looks like a great signing for the future, and you’d imagine that he’ll only go from strength to strength with Eddie Howe’s side, who have plenty of experienced professionals who could aid his development going forwards. There is certainly a sense of optimism and expectation around St James’ Park, which is understandable given the club’s fourth-place finish in the top-flight last season. With European football on the cards this season, Hall could have an important role to play at full-back, where he’ll be tested against some of the best players in the world. At the age of 18, he’s still far from the complete player, but with further experience in senior football, his progression should be fairly quick if the last year is anything to go by.

It’s been revealed by experts at mybettingsites.co.uk that Newcastle are priced at 6/5 on Sky Bet to finish in the top-four in the Premier League this season. Below, you’ll find the rest of the betting odds on Sky Bet for a top-four finish.
