Star Men | RVP, Rooney, Mata, Demba twins shine | Opta Stats

There have been some exceptional performances this weekend as well as some amazing results. There was the 7-1 mauling of Blackburn by Arsenal yesterday and then today’s epic 3-3 draw between Chelsea & Manchester United.

So we thought we’d treat our readers out there to some stats. What we would appreciate is some comments at the bottom of the post of what you thought of your team or your players performances! So who were the Star Men?

Robin Van Persie & a new star is born

First up – Arsenal. The two star men were Robin Van Persie and Oxlade-Chamberlain. They scored five goals between them and you wouldn’t have bet against the young star Oxlade getting a third had he spent more than 68 minutes on the pitch. Arsene Wenger is, rightfully, protecting him and he is sure to be a star of the future.

The stats displayed above are seriously impressive. Robin Van Persie not only scored but created goals which has made him the all round striker and in our opinion the Most Valuable Player this season. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s stats show that he’s definitely one to look out for in the future.

Demba Ba & Papiss Demba Cisse

Next up – The Demba twins as they’re being called by many. Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse are going to be a handful for Premier League defences in the second half of this season. Demba Ba has proved he only needs a handful of chances to put the ball away and this was shown in the stats today. His strike partner looks as though he’ll be getting a few goals himself if the magnificent finish today is anything to go by.

They know each other already and that only bodes well for Newcastle United. It’s going to be a fight to the finish for fourth place.

The comeback of the season?

Manchester United fought back from three goals down and the game was a treat to watch. For the neutral it had everything, great goals, tension, questionable decisions and a nail biting finish. Juan Mata created one and scored one, David Luiz put in a good performance, scoring one and winning his duels.

However it was Rooney and Ryan Giggs who will feel like winners this evening. Ryan Giggs getting his eighth assist in the Premier League (joint second with Valencia) and Rooney getting his fifteenth goal this season.
