As of early this morning, we have heard the news that Julian Alvarez is set to leave Manchester City for a club record fee of $95 million. The Argentinian star has seen great success at Man City, winning 2 Premier Leagues, an FA Cup, and a Champions League in only two full years at the club. When he was signed by Manchester City in the same season as Haaland, all football fans assumed that the World Cup winner would outlast the Norwegian star at City. But, here we are two years later and Alvarez is set to leave.Â
With this much money coming into the Premier League champion’s bank, like how you can deposit on bank transfer casinos, the main question is who will replace him?
A MidfielderÂ
When looking at the Manchester City squad there aren’t really too many weaknesses and they are consistently one of the best teams in the world but now they are losing a key player of the squad and a World Class one at that. One of the weakest places in the squad is the midfield, even though Manchester CIty have arguably the best midfield in the world, they have an aging De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva who wants to leave and Nunes who hasn’t really hit the ground running.
Looking at the squad this is a position that the money could be used in but who would they sign?Â
Dani Olmo
Well, Manchester City have been linked with a range of players this summer with the outstanding one being Dani Olmo. Pre his fantastic European Championship campaign, Manchester City was linked with the Spaniard and for good reason. Olmo is a fantastic player when it comes to playmaking and arriving into the box for goals, Olmo is the perfect player for that.Â
Alvarez being a striker means that goals may be missed if Haaland gets injured, this makes Olmo a great replacement because of his ability to score goals, play in multiple positions and passing play. Not only could he work as an Alvarez replacement for right now but could replace De Bruyne down the line.Â
Jamal Musiala
According to multiple reports, Manchester City have been looking at Jamal Musiala as a long-term midfield option, Man City’s interests seem to be leading the line when it comes to the rumours and of all the teams, Man City are most likely the most sensible career move for him.Â
Not only is Musiala similar to Olmo in his versatility, he has a lot more technical ability than Olmo and is five years younger than him. These things make Musiala a more sensible move in my opinion and a move I would enjoy seeing more.Â
A StrikerÂ
The obvious replacement is signing a striker in replacement for a striker leaving. The only issue with this is the presence of Haaland. Man City have the best striker in the world and anyone who is linked with Man City will know that they will be second fiddle to the best striker in the world.
With that being said, Santiago Giménez could be a fantastic option for Manchester City as he is an out-and-out striker, can drop deep and collect the ball, good passing and dribbling skills while also being a fantastic finisher.
He is young, being 23, and plays for Feyenoord which may help Manchester City as that move is a big step up for the Mexican. Man City could sign him and he could allow his development with Guardiola to get him another big move after a few years at the Champions of England.Â
My Choice
I have an option and it is a rogue one, with my choice being Ademola Lookman from Atalanta.
Looking at Lookman’s Fbref stats you can see that he is very similar to Julian Alvarz in the way he plays and he can play across the front line and in midfield at a high level, making him an ideal replacement although unlikely.
