Fulham vs Leicester City: Match ticket information, team news and prediction

Fulham vs Leicester City has given fans a lot of entertainment in past seasons of the Premier League but Foxes fans will remember the catastrophe that was the 2022/23 season when they were relegated.

Fulham beat them across two legs by an aggregate scoreline of 6 – 3 to finish in the top half of the table – one of their highest finishes in the Premier League in a while. If you stretch the meeting between both teams to their last six – all in the top flight, you will find that the Foxes have not been able to swipe points easily from the Cottage.

The record between both sides stands at three wins and one draw for Fulham, which makes this upcoming match an important one for Steve Cooper to prove that Leicester can go toe to toe with Fulham.

Keep reading for the match ticket information, team news, match previews and predictions for the game.

Ticket information

Fulham vs Leicester City will see the Cottagers play at home for the first time this season and for this reason, tickets will not last long on the shelves of either club.

The tickets will also sell out fast because fans of the West London club will want to see how Marco Silva follows up his performance at Old Trafford on the 2024/25 Premier League opening day fixture.

It is also an important game for the Foxes, who were thrust into the deep end upon their return to the top flight with a match against Tottenham Hotspur. Many will be in the stands, waiting to see how they can hold up their own against a team that is considered to be on their level after facing one that is a tier above them.

Team news

Fulham does not seem interested in adding more players to their ranks. There are talks of them selling Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira to Chelsea after Enzo Maresca asked BlueCo to get him the player. If the Belgian-born Brazil international leaves, he will be their fifth official exit from the club alongside Bobby DeCordova-Reid (free transfer to Leicester City), Tosin Adarabioyo (free transfer to Chelsea), Marek Rodák (released) and João Palhinha (£42.3 million to Bayern Munich).

It is the loss of the Premier League’s best tackler of 2023/24 and the club’s failure to replace him ahead of the 2024/25 season that will concern Marco Silva the most. This is Tom Cairney’s chance to prove he can fill Palhinha’s boots although at his age, it’s only a matter of time before he will be moved on.

Their opponents, Leicester City could bring in one or both of Reiss Nelson or Matias Soulé to strengthen their attack, but these signings are being threatened by other Premier League clubs as well as some clubs in the Serie A.

The Foxes will hope that their Premier League pedigree and the fact that they came back to the top flight as second-division champions could help them in the transfer market. They also let a few of their title-winning side go following their promotion. Long-term servant Marc Albrighton has left the club alongside striker Kelechi Iheanacho and midfielder Dennis Praet. Former manager Enzo Maresca then took Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall with him to Chelsea, leaving them a little short in the middle of the park.

The club have signed Ghanaian forward Abdul Fatawu Issahaku from Sporting Lisbon to a permanent contract after the 20-year-old’s impressive loan spell last season and has welcomed back Danish left-back Victor Kristiansen who gained lots of top-flight experience under Thiago Motta at Bologna and was pivotal to the club finishing in fifth place in the Serie A to earn a UEFA Champions League slot in the new format of the continent’s top club competition.

They have also strengthened their defence with the addition of Caleb Okoli from Atalanta BC and the versatile Bobby De Cordova-Reid. Steve Cooper will have to work out his favoured starting XI with Jamie Vardy leading the line.

This is what we expect both teams starting XIs to look like at Craven Cottage:

Fulham possible XI: Leno; Robinson, Bassey, Ream, Tete; Reed, Cairney; Traore, Iwobi, Pereira; Muniz.

Leicester City: Hermansen; Justin, Faes, Coady, Pereira; Choudhury Winks; Mavididi, Ndidi, Fatawu; Vardy.

Match preview

As stated earlier, both teams are almost evenly matched with Fulham just edging the head-to-head from their last six with a draw. However, the aggregate scoreline in these meetings proves that they’re more than matched (10 – 10).

Steve Cooper’s last match against Fulham was one of the reasons he got sacked from his last job at Nottingham Forest, by the way. The Tricky Trees were cut down greatly by Marco Silva’s Cottagers by a 5 – 0 scoreline on 6 December 2023 leading to Cooper being axed a week later. This match will be fresh in his mind and Silva’s.

The Portuguese manager will be the more excited one of the two, especially if Cooper lines up his team from that day in the same way even though it will be with different players.

This match will not just be one to watch for the fans but for every neutral because of the tensions that will be palpable at Craven Cottage.

Prediction

Transfer business for both teams is poor which is fans’ major worry going into the game. However, if you consider the history behind both teams, especially in the last six, they will approach the match with an open mind no matter who the managers are.

The game will be played on Saturday 24 August 2024 at 3 PM UK time and won’t be broadcast in the UK. Buying tickets from ticket reselling platforms like seatsnet.com will be a popular decision among fans.

Our prediction for the game is in favour of the home team.

Fulham 2 – 0 Leicester City.
