Manchester United facing double injury blow ahead of Atletico Madrid clash

Manchester United Injury Concerns Grow Ahead of Atletico Madrid Clash

Manchester United head to Atletico Madrid with enough problems already, and now there are fresh doubts over Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo. Neither player was seen in training before Tuesday night’s Champions League tie at the Metropolitano, which is the last thing Michael Carrick needed before a big European test.

United are already on a four-match winless run in all competitions. That makes this game important, and it also makes squad availability far more than a sideshow. Shaw started the 1-1 draw with Tottenham, then came off in stoppage time for Ayden Heaven. There was no immediate explanation from Carrick, but concerns grew quickly when footage showed the defender limping after leaving Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw Absence Leaves United Short

Shaw’s situation matters because United are thin in that area already. Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui are both still out after injuries picked up during the international break, so the left-back position is becoming a problem rather than a minor inconvenience. Shaw, now 31, also missed the league phase win over Sabah last month, and his absence from training suggests this could be another game that comes too soon.

Kobbie Mainoo Fitness Doubt Adds to Concern

Mainoo’s absence is arguably just as significant. He played the full 90 minutes against Spurs, so seeing him miss the session raises a clear question over his condition. Right now, he has to be considered a major doubt for Atletico Madrid. For a midfield that already lacks rhythm and control, that is not ideal.

Matthijs de Ligt Return Offers Some Relief

There was at least one positive note. Matthijs de Ligt trained and could return, which would be a timely boost. Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot were also involved, giving Carrick a few more options at the back.
