Tottenham Injury Update: Dejan Kulusevski Set for Return Against Coventry

Tottenham finally have one piece of good news on the injury front. Dejan Kulusevski, out for close to 18 months with a serious kneecap problem, is set to return to the matchday squad against Coventry on Monday night.

That matters. Spurs have spent a long time waiting, managing setbacks, and dealing with the sort of absence that drags on and tests everyone. Now there is a clear step forward. Kulusevski has already featured in an 11-a-side training game at Hotspur Way and travelled with the squad to Old Trafford for the draw with Manchester United. The next stage is obvious, a place on the bench at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kulusevski return gives Spurs boost

Roberto De Zerbi confirmed the Sweden international is ready to be included. “Yes [he will be on the bench], the medical staff have given the ok. It’s probably the greatest news since the Everton game,” the Tottenham head coach told reporters. “He has suffered too much.

“I told him yesterday and he had a big smile on his face.”

That tells you enough. Kulusevski has been through a miserable spell and Spurs have had to wait far longer than expected. Getting him back, even for limited minutes, is significant.

Fresh Tottenham injury problems remain

There is, however, bad news alongside the optimism. Savio is out for weeks after suffering a muscular issue before the squad left for Marbella. Lucas Bergvall is also unavailable after picking up a knee problem in Manchester. Pedro Porro, meanwhile, is not yet ready after his hamstring injury.

De Zerbi was direct. “No Savio, unfortunately Savio on Tuesday before leaving for Marbella felt a muscular problem and we have lost him for some weeks,” De Zerbi added.

“And Lucas Bergvall because he had a problem in Manchester early on in the first chance he created for Dominic Solanke.

“He felt pain in his knee but felt fine and on Sunday he came to the training ground and he’ll be out for two weeks.”

Coventry match now carries extra interest

For Tottenham, the headline is straightforward. Kulusevski is back in the picture. Spurs still have injuries to manage, and De Zerbi is short in key areas, but one of the club’s longest-running absences is finally nearing an end. After that, it is about minutes, rhythm and seeing whether Kulusevski can become a real option again for Tottenham.
