Manchester United 2 Everton 0 | In-depth Match Stats Summary

Manchester United moved twelve points clear at the top of the Premier League after beating Everton 2-0 in a straight forward affair at Old Trafford. United haven’t been this far ahead in the Premier League since 2001 and no team has overturned a twelve point gap in the Premier League.

Ryan Giggs scored in the Premier League for the 20th consecutive season after Robin van Persie touched the ball to him. Giggs had enough space and time to touch the ball to his right foot and shoot – the ball hit the inside of the post and rolled in. Robin van Persie then went close when he rounded Tim Howard and hit the post. Everton continued to play high up the pitch and allowed van Persie to run in behind them which is what led to the second goal which Robin van Persie scored – his 19th Premier League goal of the season.

The game was pretty much killed off at that point and Manchester United allowed Everton to keep the ball (which is shown in the possession stats below) but they couldn’t create more than one clear-cut chance. De Gea was forced to make saves from long-range which he is most comfortable with and it will now take a miracle for Manchester City to catch their local rivals!
