Robin Van Persie has now overtaken Luis Suarez in the race to be this season’s top goalscorer after a hat-trick against Aston Villa put him on 24 goals for the season, one more than Luis Suarez on 23. Luis Suarez will not be able to add to his tally this season after being banned for 10 games by the F.A for his bite on Branislav Ivanovic in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea.
Robin Van Persie’s next closest rival for the golden boot is Gareth Bale, who has added 2 goals to his tally this month putting him on 18 Premier League goals for this season – 6 behind the Manchester United striker. Bale is just ahead of Michu who has 17 goals this season and Christian Benteke who has notched an impressive 15 goals for a struggling Aston Villa team in his first Premier League season. Demba Ba has also scored 15 goals this season, but has not scored a Premier League goal since the last article.
