Rodgers wants a major signing

Speaking after his teams impressive 4-0 home win over Everton, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has spoken about his desire to bring in a “major signing” before Friday’s deadline.

Rodgers said “I think we will hopefully do something over the next couple of days,

“I saw some headlines after Monday’s press conference in terms of the manager being angry with the club – nothing is further from the truth.

“We are not just going to get the players we want to get in for a number of reasons.

“Hopefully we can have a major signing before the window shuts and if we can do that we will be set up for the remaining games.”

Reports today suggest that that major signing is Ukrainian winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.

24 year old Konoplyanka currently plays in Ukraine for Dnipro and recently appeared against England in his countries World Cup Qualifying matches.

Liverpool have sent a delegation including chief scout Dave Fallows to Dnipro in a bid to get the deal sealed prior to the window slamming shut on Friday evening.

There has been no mention of a fee as yet but it is believed to be in excess of £15million pounds.

Liverpool have been keen to strengthen their attacking option during this transfer window and saw a deal to sign Mohamed Salah fall through at the last minute. Quite how Konoplyanka gets into the team ahead of Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling an Phil Coutinho is another story.

However, you can never have too many good players.
