It’s been a while since we last updated you on how the best attacking players had been performing so far this season. With the majority of teams now completing fixture round 26 for this season we thought we’d share some exciting attacking stats with you. Today we will be looking at minutes per goals scored, minutes per goal involved, minutes per chances created and a look at clear-cut chances created too.
Frequent Goal Scorers
Whilst Luis Suarez has entered his first dip in form, not scoring for 310 minutes of Premier League football now, he still sits a top of the goal scorers charts. His team-mate Daniel Sturridge has taken over the mantle of scoring goals for Liverpool with 9 in his last 8 games and 7 in 7 Premier League games. Sergio Aguero, Eden Hazard and Yaya Toure make up the top 5 and it’s not surprising to see the league’s top goal scorers Manchester City and Liverpool dominate this statistic.
So do the players in the list above score most frequently? Three of them do. Sergio Aguero moves ahead of Luis Suarez after his 310 minutes without a goal have now pushed him into second place with Sturridge catching him with every goal he scores.
Although Robin Van Persie’s season has been dogged by injuries he still appears in this list scoring a goal every 123 minutes. He will be vital to David Moyes’ side as they push to finish as high as possible even though they are 11 points off of a Champions League spot.

The top five chance creators are listed below and they are a who’s who of Premier League talent. Hazard, Silva and Ozil are well known for their creative talents and Luis Suarez is also adding himself to this illustrious list. Mousa Sissoko is the surprise entrant here and he’s one impressive game away from being one of the most creative in the league.
Once again the best way to judge a player is to look at how frequently they are creating for their side. David Silva is leading this measure by the proverbial “country mile” as he’s creating every 21 minutes. The Juan Mata stats below combine his Chelsea and Manchester United exploits and these push him into second place whilst Ozil sits in third place and two Manchester City players, Nasri and Navas, unsurprisingly complete the top 5.

Goal Assists & Clear-Cut Chances
One stat that is used widely to compare players is goal assists. Whilst we believe this measure is really a two way relationship dependant on a striker to put away a chance we will still list the top goal assisters this season for those that still appreciate the statistic.
The really interesting measure that we believe should be moved ahead or at least used ahead of the goal assist is the clear-cut chance created stat. As you can see from below two Liverpool players lead the way in Suarez and Coutinho with 16 and 10 respectively. Ramsey, Silva and Crouch make up the top five but it would be interesting to see how frequently this top 5 are creating their clear-cut chances.
Minutes Per Clear-Cut Chance Created
- Suarez: 117.8 minutes
- Coutinho: 160.4 minutes
- Ramsey: 166.1 minutes
- Silva: 167.6
- Crouch: 221.8
We’ve taken the top five clear-cut chance creators and their frequency is in exactly the same position as their total with Suarez and Coutinho being the most frequent creators of this type of chance.

Mins Per Goal Involvement
This is a really interesting statistic combining goals scored and assists to show how involved a player is per goal for their side. This is calculated by dividing their total minutes player with the total goals plus total assists.
The image below illustrates the mins per goal goal involvement for players that have scored more than 5 goals.
Luis Suarez was way ahead in this measure but his recent drought of no goal in 310 minutes has pushed Aguero in front who has been involved in a goal every 59.95 minutes as compared to Suarez’ 60.77. Daniel Sturridge’s goal and assist last night for Liverpool also improved his numbers to 70.85 minutes per goal involvement as has Adebayor’s impressive recent run of form. Wayne Rooney’s 9 goals and 9 assists this season ensure he remains one of the most dangerous players in the league.
The Second Assist
This is a statistic that isn’t really talked about much. Opta define it as the following:
A pass/cross that is instrumental in creating a goal-scoring opportunity, for example a corner or free-kick to a player who then assists an attempt, a chance-creating through ball or cross into a dangerous position.
This is an interesting measure that is used in Hockey more than football but it’s still interesting to see which players unlock defences by send players in behind defences that then go on to create goals. Samir Nasri impressively leads the way with Rosicky, Yaya, Henderson and Kacanikilic completing the top five here.
