Steven Gerrard: We’re the dark horses

Following his teams 3-2 victory away at Fulham last night Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has said that his team are the “dark horses” in this season’s Barclays Premier League race.

The reds are now only four points behind league leaders Chelsea after the skippers last minute winner from the penalty spot against relegation threatened Fulham.

With Chelsea and Manchester City still to visit Anfield this season, Gerrard is confident his team can gatecrash the party and be serious contenders for the league title.

“We’re in the mix,” admitted Gerrard. “It’s still early days, there’s a lot of football to be played and we’re not going to get carried away. But we are in good form. We feel as if we’re dark horses. “We just carry on playing and trying to win as many games as we can. We have the advantage, in a funny way, of no European football, because we have just got the league and FA Cup to focus on.”

Liverpool have to be considered realistic title challengers this season, with no European fixtures they will only have to play 1 game a week from now until the end of the season and that could be a real advantage as the season progresses
