We’ve got four all-Premier League ties in this weekend’s FA Cup so I thought it would be fun to push them through the prediction model and have a quick update on who it thinks will be progressing. These runs use the same algorithm and data as our usual EPL simulations and I’ve never tried predicting the FA Cup before, so do bear that in mind if you’re having a bet. This one’s just for fun and to give me something to do until normal service resumes next week!
Unfortunately, I can’t include non-Premier League sides because I haven’t got a model for them or the data to build one, but two thousand simulations each of the four top tier fixtures gives us…
And here are the usual pass completion and shooting stats:
If the model’s correct, we’ll see Sunderland edge a tight tie with Southampton, plus Manchester City, Everton and Liverpool all progress to the quarter finals.
