Eden Hazard | Player Performance Analysis vs Everton

Eden Hazard is currently showing everyone why Chelsea paid all that money for him back in the summer of 2012 and the young Belgian completed another impressive run-out against top four chasing Everton at the weekend. After 27 games, the pacey winger is still in the running for the Premier League Player of the Season award, after netting a very impressive 12 goals from the left and right wings. Hazard is also topping the league table at this moment in time with Chelsea perched above Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool on a fantastic 60 points. Hazard has also helped maintain Chelsea’s impressive start to 2014, as the Blues remain unbeaten since the turn of the year, and Hazard has already bagged himself four league goals this year.

The game against Everton wasn’t the most exciting fixture this season – nor was it the most exciting of the weekend – but Hazard performed well once again and was one of Chelsea’s key players throughout. The Belgian created five open play chances for his teammates against Everton although none of those chances resulted in goals for the London side.
Hazard is well known for his dribbling and he attempted five dribbles against Roberto Martinez’s men as he attempted to prod and probe the Evertonian backline.

Passing

Passing KeyHazard Passing vs Everton (H)

Chelsea’s expensive winger was slightly below his season average in terms of passing accuracy. The tricky wide man registered a decent passing accuracy of 77% but this was slightly below his average score of 83% – a good return for an attacking player operating in the final third of the pitch.

Despite not being at his most accurate with the ball on the floor, Hazard was pretty accurate with his crosses against Everton with 25% of his crosses finding a fellow Chelsea player. This was a slight upgrade on his season average of 18%.

Hazard did have a slightly wasteful game as he lost the ball a whopping 21 times – one of his highest totals of the season. Those 21 possession losses were achieved without a single overrun of the ball – which perhaps shows how below average his passing was on this occasion. However, he did work hard to get the ball back as he won possession five times in the middle third alone, as well as once in his own defensive third – displaying key traits, which are expected of a Mourinho winger. Encouragingly, his five middle third possession wins was his joint highest total of the season which perhaps shows he remains in tip-top health heading into the tiring and energy-sapping end to the Premier League season.

All in all, the Everton match wasn’t vintage Hazard but he wasn’t helped by his teammates who were performing well below par and, in truth, Everton deserved at least a point from the game. If this is Hazard playing poor then I feel for the teams that will face him on a good day because he was still very competitive on Saturday afternoon despite some of his statistics dropping below his season averages.
