Everton to Build New Stadium?

Merseyside club and Champions League chasers Everton have supposedly located a site within Liverpool City boundaries to build a new 50,000 seater stadium. The news comes a week after fellow City rivals, Liverpool, announced their plans to renovate Anfield’s Main Stand and Anfield Road End, increasing the capacity to 59,000 over the next few years.

Everton chief executive Robert Elstone said:

“The stadium remains a big priority.

“We hope it comes to fruition and if it does I think it’s something that the city and our fans will be proud of.”

Everton had hoped to build a new stadium in 2010 but the plans were rejected by the government. Everton and Liverpool were rumoured to be in discussions with regards to a shared stadium in Stanley Park in the past, similar to AC Milan and Internazionale, but this has never transpired. Elstone also added that there could be news about a new stadium by the start of next season.
