Vidic Bids Farewell to Old Trafford

Serbian veteran Nemanja Vidic is to bid his farewell to Old Trafford tonight as he plays his final home game as a Manchester United payer. Vidic joined United in Christmas of 2005, and has played 298 games since in all competitions with Hull City tonight his 299th.

Vidic is to join Inter Milan at the end of the season having spent 8 and a half years in the Premier League following a move from Spartak Moskow. The Serb is heralded as one of the best central defenders the Premier League has seen.

“I never considered staying in England as the only club I ever wanted to play for in this country is United and I have been lucky enough to be part of this club for so many years. I’ve got so many great memories. I never could have imagined winning 15 trophies, including five Premier League titles and the Champions League.

“I’ve played for the greatest manager [Sir Alex Ferguson] and I have learned a lot, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

“Manchester United make you feel part of the family. It has been a great experience for me.

“I have developed as a man at this club.”

Vidic will make his 300th appearance for the club, should he remain injury free tonight, on Sunday against Southampton. United will face a tough task to locate the leadership and skills Vidic brought to the United back-line, with a busy transfer summer ahead.
