Arsene Wenger is set to hand England international Jack Wilshere the central midfield holding role at the Emirates next year if deals for other midfield targets fail to materialise. The Arsenal coach has been linked with many top international midfielders such as Lars Bender, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira.
While touted as one of the future stars of English football, Wilshere has failed to develop at the rate in which people expected. Not only has he suffered from countless injuries in his time in the first team, his off-field antics have caught the eye of social media and many fans, having been caught smoking on countless occasions.
However, his rumoured social life appears to be affecting his development as a footballer. If he is to be given his manager’s full confidence next year he will have to finally make his mark in the English game.
Should Wenger sign a new midfielder, question marks will appear over Wilshere’s future, especially with Aaron Ramsey coming off a big season.
