There is very little to choose between Newcastle and Everton when it comes to shooting this season. The Magpies and the Toffees have a very similar total of shots in the Premier League so separating the two is difficult ahead of their meeting at St James’ Park, with home advantage the likely deciding factor.

Newcastle’s total from 18 Premier League games is 224 and Everton fair only slightly better with 238 so separating the two when they come face to face could be difficult. The fact Newcastle are at home could see them edge things as they will have the crowd behind them. Newcastle fans will still be smarting from the 1-0 reverse to local rivals Sunderland in the derby game to continue the hold the Wearside club have had in recent seasons – although Newcastle did have 15 shots and chances to win the game.

With Newcastle owner Mike Ashley’s attention being drawn away to his other British club in Rangers all Magpies fans will need something to cheer them in this festive fixture.

A run of good from, including the victory which ended Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season, had put the Mapgies in a strong position. However, letting in four goals in successive games, to Arsenal and Tottenham, followed by the defeats to Sunderland and Manchester United, have undone that good work and put the pressure back on boss Alan Pardew.

His opposite number Roberto Martinez is still looking for consistency from his Everton team, despite strong performances in Europe, and will have one eye on the opening of the transfer window on 1st January. Everton fans will be used to seeing their prized assets move on and will be looking to the club to retain the services of England player Ross Barkley if bigger clubs come calling. A win at Newcastle will need top scorer Romelu Lukaku to get his shooting boots on at the right end after giving away an own goal in the 3-0 defeat at Southampton.
