City Stroll to Win against Sunderland

Manchester City sailed to a spectacular 4-1 win against relegation bound Sunderland on boxing day. The game was symbolically summarised by its first goal, a delicious cross from DeBruyne headed in by Raheem Sterling. Raheem is 5ft 7 facing 2 6ft plus centre backs John O’Shea and Seb Coates, and yet he headed in unchallenged on 12minutes.

Sunderland were very poor, almost abject, unable to retain possession, and very weak in the challenge. Watching this Seb Coates display Liverpool fans will be very happy they managed to palm him off to Sunderland, as he had a disastrous day.

Kevin DeBruyne now has 5 PL goals and 8 assists, noticeably 4 of those goals and all 8 assists have been at home. DeBruyne needs to do more away from home, he was fairly anonymous in City’s last away game in the loss to Arsenal on Monday. Sunderland being so poor allowed DeBruyne to spread his wings.

The City team seemed like they had been stung by the criticism for their last performance against Arsenal with what was a fairly lacklustre performance and lacked the desire of potential champions. City came out of the traps with a high tempo game, with some exquisite interplay between Silva and DeBruyne.

The second goal from Yaya Toure was almost as good as his goal at Arsenal. On 17 minutes his goal effectively put the game to bed. A swift one-two with Silva led to another lofted goal. Silva is gradually getting back to his best, after his spell out injured. Even though DeBruyne will take the plaudits in this game, everything good from City comes from Silva.

Sam Allardyce noted for his defensive disciple will be disappointed watching how his team capitulated. 2-0 up in 17minutes, boosted City’s confidence, Sterling, DeBruyne and Silva were at their creative best interchanging passes at will.

The only blot on the landscape for City was Kompany coming on in the 62nd minute and being substituted off in the 71st minute.
“Vincent’s news is not the best,” Pellegrini said. “He was ready to return, but not to play the whole game.

“We will see tomorrow what the doctor says, but it is the same calf.”

Bony nodded in a DeBruyne cross on 22minutes and DeBruyne added a fourth after a deflection off Coates fell to him in the box. Bony skied a penalty on 69minutes and Borini scored a late consolation goal, but this was nothing more than a stroll in the park for City.

The worrying thing for Arsenal fans is City are there or there abouts without their two best players Aguero and Kompany. Bony still misses too many chances and when Aguero is fully fit and firing, you can see this City side hitting their stride.

Sunderland along with Villa and Newcastle are comfortably the three worst sides at present. City need to transfer their home form more regularly to their away performances. Sunderland’s performance flattered City, however it’s hard to see past them with their squad depth, City are favourites with the bookies to win the league and with Aguero and Kompany back, you’d be brave to bet against them.
